Data reveals temperature and salinity variations in Mandinga Lagoon, highlighting ecosystem service impacts.
The Mandinga Lagoon system supplies significant ecosystem services, particularly as a refuge to aquatic birds, mammals, and marine and brackish water fish. Of foremost importance to the local economy is the oyster fishery; then monitoring the physical, chemical, and biological water conditions of the lagoon is essential. We make available temperature and salinity profiles in 25 stations that cover different bathymetric scenarios throughout the Mandinga Grande lagoon, from 15 surveys during the dry and rainy seasons of 2014. The data can be used as a base case for new studies comparing the change in the lagoon physicochemical properties due to urbanization, mangrove deforestation, sea level rise and modifications in the fresh supply to the lagoon.
