Meta-analysis predicts methane production potential of rations using chemical composition, highlighting the need for improved prediction methods.
A meta-analysis was conducted to predict the methane production potential of feed ingredients and rations based on their chemical composition. Thirty-seven publications were selected, yielding 377 datasets. Prediction equations for Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) were developed using NDF and CP. The accuracy of these equations (R²=63.2; RMSE=81.6) was lower than that obtained from smaller experimental datasets.
