Clinical experience highlights improvements in motor activity and postural control in pediatric rehabilitations.
A girl M., 17 years old, was a patient under observation. The diagnosis was cerebral palsy, right spastic hemiplegia (consequences of perinatal lesion of the central nervous system); psychomotor and communicative retardation; condition after birth trauma (intraventricular hemorrhage) with hypoxia and coma during the neonatal period. The medical records of an inpatient undergoing a rehabilitation cycle were analyzed on the base of the Municipal Institution «Zalishchyky Children’s Medical Rehabilitation Center» in Ternopil region. The rehabilitation course lasted 14 days and included realization of an individual program of physical therapy developed according to the patient’s clinical condition and regulations of the individual rehabilitation program. The results of the rehabilitation course are indicative of a significant positive dynamics of the patient’s clinical condition. Muscle spasticity reduced, postural control improved, walking pattern became stable and general motor activity increased. Organic lesions of the central nervous system in childhood remain one of the most serious medical and social issues of current medicine. Movement disorders attract special attention of specialists, certain forms of cerebral palsy in particular, such as spastic hemiplegia. Such conditions are often associated with functional disorders of the muscular-skeletal system, speaking, and cognitive development, requiring early, systemic and comprehensive approach to rehabilitation.
