Survey reveals key factors affecting grandparent-grandchild relationships among pedagogy students, highlighting social dynamics.
The role of grandparents in the upbringing, growing up and shaping of children and young adults is, despite a wide range of scholarly positions, an ongoing issue that needs to be explored. The relationship between grandchild and grandfather/grandmother is unique and often involves an intergenerational commitment to care, nurture or education. The changes in society and the large-scale generational shifts that are taking place constantly exert pressure on theorists to analyse the current relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. The topic addressed here captures the perspective of those entering adulthood on grandparent-grandchild relationships. The article reviews theories of grandparent-grandchild relationships and presents the results of a survey of graduate students on the potential determinants of these relationships. The research material was collected through a diagnostic survey using an online survey technique and presents the opinions of respondents based on their experiences of relationships with grandparents. There is no doubt that the topic addressed by the authors is of high social relevance and that it deserves attention from the perspective of various scientific areas.
