Integrative literature review reveals high subclinical mastitis prevalence in ruminants, highlighting antimicrobial resistance and public health implications.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the general aspects of mastitis in ruminants from the perspective of One Health, considering its interfaces with public, environmental, and animal health, as well as the multiprofessional approach in addressing the disease. Theoretical Framework: The research is based on the concept of One Health, which articulates the human, animal, and environmental dimensions of health. Additionally, it incorporates contemporary discussions on antimicrobial resistance, sustainability in agriculture, and integrated sanitary control. Method: This is an integrative literature review based on 24 selected scientific articles from the SciELO, PubVet, and LILACS databases, published between 2015 and 2025. The selection followed the PRISMA-ScR protocol criteria, prioritizing studies that address mastitis in ruminants within the One Health context. Results and Discussion: The results indicate a high prevalence of subclinical mastitis, with emphasis on the agents Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp. A growing dissemination of bacterial resistance associated with the inappropriate use of antimicrobials was observed. The discussion reinforces the need for integrated and sustainable actions in dairy farming. Research Implications: The research provides support for public policies, safer clinical and sanitary practices, highlighting the importance of joint action among veterinarians, pharmacists, animal scientists, and public health professionals. Originality/Value: This study is innovative in applying the One Health concept to mastitis in ruminants, offering an interdisciplinary and strategic approach to contemporary health and environmental challenges.
