This analysis reveals intermittent compression in relativistic jets from active galactic nuclei, indicating significant behavior in their propagation.
In this present study, the propagation of a magnetized relativistic jet from an active galactic nucleus through a uniform interstellar medium is investigated by numerically solving the relativistic magnetohydrodynamic equations using a high-order finite volume method. Furthermore, intermittency signatures are examined using probability density distributions of current density evaluated at various streamwise locations along the jet. Statistical analysis reveals that the front portion of jet will produce intense intermittent compressive current sheets, while inside the cocoon, the fluctuations are more isotropic with strong intermittency.
