Case report demonstrates ultrasound's role in diagnosing extrahepatic portal vein obstruction, suggesting improved detection rates.
Ultrasound is vital for diagnosing and monitoring noncirrhotic extrahepatic portal vein obstruction in children, though literature on its use remains limited. This case report described the diagnostic and therapeutic processes in an 11-year-old child with recurrent hematochezia. Following the diagnosis based on clinical presentation and complementary investigations, the patient underwent surgical intervention. Postoperative follow-up was conducted using conventional ultrasound to assess the prognosis. This report may enhance sonographers' understanding of this rare disease, improve its early detection rate, and highlight the indispensable role of ultrasonography in long-term postoperative management.
