Exploratory analysis correlates infrastructure deficiencies with sustainability and competitiveness in Amapá's bioeconomy.
Objective: This study aims to investigate how deficiencies in transportation, energy, and connectivity affect the bioeconomy production chains in Amapá, seeking to understand their effects on competitiveness, value addition, and regional sustainability. Theoretical Framework: The research is grounded in contributions from Boulding (1966) and Georgescu-Roegen (2013), who laid the foundations of ecological economics, and in perspectives of bioecology, biotechnology, and bioresources (Vargas, Pinto & Lima, 2023). In the Amazonian context, emphasis is placed on the bioeconomy of sociobiodiversity, which values the knowledge of indigenous peoples, riverine, extractivists, and family farmers. Method: This exploratory study combined literature review, document analysis, and interviews conducted from October 2023 to October 2024. Participants included family farmers, extractivists, quilombolas, indigenous peoples, businesspeople, and public agents. Semi-structured questionnaires helped identify challenges and expectations. Results and Discussion: The results show that poor roads, unstable energy supply, and limited connectivity hinder value addition, reinforce dependence on middlemen, restrict innovation, and deepen inequalities. Overcoming these bottlenecks is essential for consolidating the bioeconomy as a driver of sustainable development. Research Implications: The study highlights the need for inclusive public policies, investment in physical and digital infrastructure, and renewable energy expansion to boost the regional economy and reduce social vulnerabilities. Originality/Value: This research is original by integrating infrastructure diagnosis with analysis of production chains in Amapá, showing infrastructure as a key condition to strengthen the Amazonian bioeconomy.
