Abstract

A hexacationic cage was self-assembled quantitatively using a dynamic bond and steric preorganization of reaction sites. This preorganization also creates a more rigid cavity, enhancing anion binding compared to a less bulky counterpart. The cage even recognizes highly hydrated anions like Cl- in water.
