Experimental analysis highlights that non-antibiotic strategies impact paracoccus aminovorans growth in cholera, suggesting new approaches for control.
Abstract Gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the outcome of cholera. In this context, Paracoccus aminovorans, a gut commensal, has been evidenced to positively influence the pathogenesis of the cholera bacterium. In the present study, we examined the impact of various non-antibiotic strategies on the growth of Paracoccus aminovorans. We observed that the growth of Paracoccus aminovorans was severely restricted by L-ascorbic acid and in co-culture growth assays with a gut commensal, Weissella confusa.
