The article provides an overview of the online round table “E-commerce in the orbit of legal regulation”, took place on March 13, 2025 at the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation. The round table participants were represented by authoritative experts in the field of legal theory, information law, financial law, international law, civil law and private international law, which made it possible to comprehensively consider the problems faced by civil turnover in the context of digitalization of contractual relations. The speakers repeatedly emphasized the significance of the development of legal regulation adequate to modern technological realities at both international and domestic levels. In particular, the initiatives of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in the field of regulation of e-trade and automated conclusion of contracts, as well as the vectors of the development of national legislation in the area under consideration were discussed; the modern practice of Russian courts was analyzed in the context of disputes resolving, related to the conclusion of the contract in electronic form; the question was raised regarding the qualification of electronic objects as objects of civil rights. Particular attention during the round table was paid to the legal foundations of the functioning of digital and financial platforms, the use of recommendatory technologies, the legal regulation of the threshold of duty-free import as a tool for regulating electronic trade, etc. The reports on online dispute resolution mechanisms aroused considerable interest.
