Analyzes student-centered learning's role in higher education, indicating a shift towards mentorship.
In the article, the author raises the issue of the place and importance of student-centered learning in higher education institutions as a modern requirement of the time and compliance of Ukrainian education with world and European standards. Its approximation to the leading European institutions of higher education. After all, modern higher education is currently undergoing global changes and continues to actively develop. The article notes that modern society is rapidly developing thanks to social networks, the Internet, electronic resources, the ability to listen to diverse webinars, online lectures and trainings. Modern higher education students are on the wave of mass information. And, it would seem, on the one hand, the function of a teacher in the classical sense is losing its purpose. The teacher acquires a new status - a mentor or tutor, whose main task is to help a higher education student master and isolate the information that will be useful to them in the future, form their general and special competencies and program learning outcomes. The basis of student-centered learning is not so much a knowledge, but a competency paradigm of educational activity, an orientation towards obtaining a symbiosis of knowledge, skills, abilities, and abilities to solve complex problems of an economic and managerial nature. The author also outlines the problem of understanding student-centeredness as the main idea of orientation towards the higher education seeker, while not reducing it to arbitrariness and permissiveness of the seeker and the lack of rights of the teacher. Student-centeredness is primarily a partnership aimed at high-quality education, taking into account the abilities and aspirations of the seeker in mastering skills and abilities, which is required by the Higher Education Standard. Implementing the principles of student-centeredness, the seeker acquires the status of an active participant in the educational process, acquires not only rights and freedoms, but also responsibilities. In turn, student-centeredness requires the teacher to self-develop and improve their professional skills, which are transferred to the seeker. Teachers help students formulate educational goals, discover and develop their potential, and generally prepare them for the challenges of the modern world.
