The article presents the activity of Peter Wysz of Radolina, Bishop of Cracow, during his law studies in Padua and analyses his social networks, which have not yet been the subject of in-depth studies. The most important source for researching Peter Wysz’s social network in Padua is the edition of documents from the Paduan archives concerning the University of Padua Monumenti dell’Università di Padova, 1318–1405 by Andrea Gloria. The research method refers to the analysis of social networks adapted for historical research in line with Alessandra Celati’s postulates. Considering the fact that the sources are heterogeneous and only randomly preserved, the study focuses on the key figures from Peter Wysz’s network. These include the professors of Padua, especially his supervisors such as the Bishop of Feltre and Belluno (Antonio Naseri) or eminent jurist Angelo degli Ubaldi, but also the professors of medicin, brothers Marsilio and Giovanni Santasofia. Another category is contacts with members of the local elites, both secular and ecclesiastical, such as Ugolino Scrovegni or Giovanni Enselmini, future bishop of Padua. Peter Wysz’s social network also included other students, especially Polish, German, Czech and Hungarian, most of whom had previously studied in Prague. The main thesis of the paper is that the consistently built network of contacts played a pivotal role in Peter Wysz’s university career, culminating in the position of Rector of Ultramontanes for two times and doctorate in both laws. It also contributed to his political and ecclesiastical career, for the contacts made during his studies in Padua could be useful to him in his diplomatic work, especially in the Roman Curia.
