In vitro analysis shows significant inhibition of C. falcatum in sugarcane using pesticides, indicating potential treatment options.
AbstractSugarcane is affected by various diseases mainly red rot caused by Colletotrichum falcatum. An in vitro experiment was conducted to examine the efficacy of two different pesticides combination such as Azoxystrobin 18.2% + Difenoconazole 11.4% SC and Azoxystrobin 2.5% + Thiophanate Methyl 11.25% + Thiamethoxam 25% FS with the concentration of 0.3 ppm, 0.5 ppm, 1 ppm, 5 ppm, 15 ppm, 25 ppm and 50 ppm. The result evaluated after 7th day of colony growth by taken inhibition percentage of all tested concentrations. The result of in vitro inhibition percentage of fungus revealed that the combination of Azoxystrobin 18.2% + Difenoconazole 11.4% SC and Azoxystrobin 2.5% + Thiophanate Methyl 11.25% + Thiamethoxam 25% FS were significantly inhibited the mycelial growth of the pathogen in all concentrations compared to control. The radial growth of the fungus was inhibited 90% by Amistar Top at 50 ppm concentration followed by other concentrations. However, in case of Electron, the radial growth was inhibited 87.4% at 50 ppm concentration followed by other concentrations. Comparison between both of the combination, Azoxystrobin 18.2% + Difenoconazole 11.4% SC was found better than the other combination. The observation comes that these fungicides can inhibit C. falcatum efficiently and can be used for treatment of red rot disease of sugarcane, if used in integrated manner.
