Analysis reveals links between imaging biomarkers and histopathological features in IDH-mutant gliomas, suggesting new diagnostic pathways.
Motivation: Understanding the metabolic profile of glioma is crucial for enhancing diagnostic and treatment precision. This study leverages advanced imaging and histopathology to delve into glioma metabolism. Goal(s): To integrate multi-parametric 1H/HP-13C MRI data with histopathological analysis of glioma biopsy samples, enabling detailed characterizations of metabolic dysregulation in glioma. Approach: Four patients with IDH-mutant astrocytoma underwent multi-parametric 1H/HP-13C MR imaging before surgery, followed by histological analysis of tumor biopsy samples. Metabolic conversion rates and histological markers of hypoxia, vascularity, and proliferation were obtained. Results: The findings reveal correlations between imaging-derived biomarkers and histopathological features, with correlations observed between Ki-67 expression and perfusion parameters. Impact: This study advances the understanding of glioma metabolism through the integration of novel multi-parametric 1H/HP-13C MRI and tumor histopathological analysis. The insights can enhance precision in characterizing glioma, potentially guiding tailored treatment strategies.
