Implementation of a modular framework for metabolite-selective MR imaging, enhancing RF and gradient customization.
Motivation: Metabolite-selective MR imaging via spatial-spectral excitation has become an important method in hyperpolarized 13C MRI. Open-access optimization tools provide numerous RF & gradient solutions for a desired spatial-spectral band. Goal(s): To provide solutions for users to test and verify the RF & gradient shape options via using standard MRI methods. Approach: In this work, we implemented a modular feature in Bruker ParaVision that allows the selection of customized pulses & gradients in product methods. Results: The feature was successfully implemented and tested in Singlepulse, FLASH, and EPI methods with minimal necessary reprogramming. Exemplary simulated and measured excitation profiles are presented. Impact: A modular framework for spatial-spectral excitation with Bruker product methods was implemented. The framework can assist MRI researchers to evaluate possible RF & gradient shapes for a specified metabolite-selective MR exam.
