Motivation: Amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) MRI and DWI are advanced functional MR technologies that provide microstructural information about tissues. The histopathological grade of HNSCC is typically determined through invasive biopsy. Accurate and non-invasive methods are needed. Goal(s): To investigate the potential of APTw MRI and DWI for predicting the histopathological grade of HNSCC. Approach: Tumor grade was confirmed through pathological confirmation. APTw and ADC values were evaluated and compared across tumors with different grades. Results: Both APTw and ADC were found to be effective in predicting the histopathological grades. The diagnostic accuracy was enhanced when both parameters were combined. Impact: APTw and ADC provide unique insights into tumor microenvironment. Incorporating these imaging modalities into clinical practice offers a non-invasive approach for tumor grading, which could enhance preoperative assessment and potentially improve patient management.
