Microstructural analysis and wear tests reveal WS2's role in improving wear resistance in coatings.
In this work, the self-lubricating wear-resistant coating systems Al-30 vol%Al 2 O 3 -WS 2 with different WS 2 contents (mass fraction: 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%) were prepared, aiming to improve the wear resistance performance of the composite coating under different conditions. The influence of WS 2 concentration on the wear-resistant behavior of the self-lubricating wear-resistant coating was studied by microstructural analysis and wear-resistant performance measurements. The wear mechanism of the self-lubricating wear-resistant coating under dry and seawater friction conditions was revealed. The microstructural analysis results showed that the coating surface is denser and smoother with the increase in WS 2 content, with no obvious defects at the junction (the bonding strength is above 30 MPa). The wear-resistant results show that the addition of 5wt% WS 2 is very important to improve the wear resistance of the coating. Whether in dry conditions or seawater conditions, the lubrication effect of WS 2 has a significant impact on the wear resistance of the coating. The wear resistance mechanism of the coating mainly includes the lubricating effect of WS 2 in the initial wear stage, adhesive wear in the middle stage, and abrasive wear in the later stage.
