Qualitative case study explores constitutional roles and challenges in democratization, suggesting limitations in implementation.
This study examines the role and limitations of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) Constitution in the democratization process of the Somali Regional State. Using a qualitative case study approach, purposive sampling, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussions, the researchers employed thematic analysis. The findings highlight that the FDRE Constitution provides a legal framework supporting fundamental rights, democratic institutions, decentralization, and self-governance, addressing the Somali Regional State's aspirations for inclusivity and autonomy. However, challenges in implementation and interpretation persist, particularly in this ethnically diverse and conflict-prone region, hindering the full realization of its democratic potential.
