Numerical modeling reveals inert particle layer affects detonation wave suppression in gas mixtures, suggesting safety improvements.
The article presents the results of numerical modeling of detonation wave propagation in gas suspensions with transversely non-uniform distribution of inert solid particles. It is established that the passage of a detonation wave through a layer of spatially non-uniform particles can lead to both its complete suppression and restoration depending on the geometric and physical parameters of the medium. It is shown that an increase in the length of the solid particle layer helps to reduce the critical mass content required to interrupt detonation. Additionally, the effect of the transverse non-uniformity height and particle diameter on the stability and nature of wave propagation is analyzed. The obtained results are important for the development of passive methods for detonation suppression and improving the safety of process systems operating with flammable gas mixtures.
