This commentary extends Gilabert's framework to include care work, suggesting new rights for caregivers.
This commentary provides a brief overview of the method that Gilabert's Human Dignity and Social Justice adopts to derive basic labor rights as part of a vision of humanistic justice. This commentary then extends the method to carve out conceptual space for reimagining care work as a foundation for new labor rights that are designed to protect waged and unwaged care workers. It argues that Gilabert's original scheme of basic labor rights is incomplete because it neglects a systematic treatment of care work. However, the dignitarian framework provides many rich normative resources that this commentary threads together to meet the needs of care workers.
