Systematic review evaluates oocyte maturation triggers in fertilization, suggesting better methods might enhance success rates.
(Abstracted from Fertil Steril 2025;123(5):812–826) In a typical ovulatory cycle, a surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) acts as a trigger to resume meiosis and cause an oocyte to mature and be prepared for fertilization. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) has been used for many years as a substitute trigger for oocyte maturation during fertility treatment due to its structural and biological similarities to LH.
