Interview with Roushan Jahan highlights feminist struggles and activism in Bangladesh, addressing women's issues.
Roushan Jahan is a prominent translator, researcher, and an activist. Her translation of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain's Sultana's Dream in contemporary English made this feminist utopia by a Bengali woman in pre-independence India accessible to Western readers. This translation along with Jahan's translation of her other works, which were written in Bengali, continues to be studied by researchers around the world. In addition to being a translator, she is a researcher and has produced a rich body of work on the feminist struggles of Bangladeshi women. Her research informs her activism for women's issues in Bangladesh through the organization, Women for Women, which she founded. The topics for this interview ranged from her writing to her activism. She provides us important insights into the struggles and victories of feminists in Bangladesh.
