This research discusses the role and significance of lexicographic principles in the construction of dictionaries. It is a fact that dictionaries serve as essential linguistic tools that record, describe, and standardize language. The compilation of dictionaries requires a rigorous application of lexicographic principles to ensure reliability, accuracy, and usability. This paper highlights theoretical and practical approaches to compiling dictionary. The paper also presents historical and modern perspectives on lexicography, analyzes principles such as selection, definition, description, arrangement, consistency, and user-orientation, and provides case studies of well-constructed dictionaries. It further investigates technological improvements which have been have reshaping modern lexicographic practices. The findings underscore that without strict adherence to lexicographic principles, dictionaries risk losing credibility and usefulness. The study comes to the conclusion that lexicographic principles are essential for both maintaining linguistic accuracy and adjusting to the evolving demands of users in today’s digital environments.
