Literature review highlights trends in educator preparation in FCS, indicating a pressing teacher shortage and unique curriculum needs.
This literature review examined articles on FCS educator preparation programs published in three family and consumer sciences (FCS) journals from 2006‐2023. The aim of the review was to better understand the types of research being conducted about FCS educator preparation programs. The researchers examined trends in the research, practice, and delivery of post-secondary programs for FCS teacher preparation. An analysis of the literature revealed two overarching themes that are explored in detail: the shortage of FCS teachers and the specialized curriculum of FCS educator programs. Focusing on these themes can help inform and concentrate efforts toward maintaining teacher education programs.
