Laser interferometer detects partial discharge in gas insulated switch gear, suggesting improved maintenance strategies.
Partial discharge occurs due to the damage of inner components of the high voltage industrial structure. Thus, the discharge detection is important for effective maintenance. In this study, a laser-interferometer based vibration measurement sensor for the discharge detection was developed to overcome the influence of high voltage EMI noise. As a result of conducting a discharge detection experiments using actual gas-insulated switch gears to verify the sensor, the vibration due to the partial discharge was measured by the sensor and the location of the discharge occurrence could be identified.
