Dialogues explore literary style and the role of masculinities in Szalay's works set in contemporary London.
David Szalay is a Hungarian-British author. His first novel, London and the South East (2008), won the Betty Trask Award, while in 2016 All That Man Is was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Szalay's work is celebrated for its tragicomedies of male sexual and working life, its movements through twenty-first century Europe, and its innovations of form and style. His latest novel, Flesh, was published in March 2025. He spoke with Dominic Dean about Flesh and its relationships with his previous work, his evolutions in literary style, and the roles that contemporary London, European mobility, and masculinities all play in his narratives.
