The purpose of the article is to identify the contribution of Galician composers of the specified period to the development of the Ukrainian musical tradition and to determine their role in the process of national and cultural formation. The research methodology is based on the cultural-historical method, applied to establish the relationship between musical art and the processes of national revival and the formation of Ukrainian identity; source analysis, used for processing scholarly works, musical editions, and folk song collections; the comparative method, employed to contrast European musical stylistic trends with Ukrainian ones; and the biographical method, which made it possible to reveal the role of individual clergymen-composers in shaping the national musical tradition. The scientific novelty of the article lies in actualising, within the historical and cultural context, the role of the clergy in forming the musical tradition of Galicia in the late 19th – first half of the 20th century as the foundation for the development of national musical thinking. Conclusions. Galicia of the late 19th – first half of the 20th century played an important role in shaping the Ukrainian musical tradition. This was a period of the flourishing of musical culture in Galicia as a result of socio-political changes and the active participation of prominent cultural figures. Their individual creative work as composers, conductors, educators, performers, and cultural-educational activists formed musical traditions that became an essential part of national identity. It was in Galicia that the model of national musical thinking was first developed, which became the basis for the further evolution of Ukrainian academic music.
