This study compares immune responses to acute immune stimulation and vaccination in calves, suggesting significant variations based on stressor type.
LAY SUMMARY Cattle commonly experience stress during the production cycle, whether during transportation in the marketing system, or stimulation of the immune system in response to disease. This study compared stress and immune responses of calves exposed to acute immune stimulation, vaccination, or transportation. Study results conclude that differences exist in a calf’s response to different stressors, with the largest changes observed in calves exposed to acute immune stimulation and vaccination. These results provide additional information on the response of calves to various stressors.
