Abstract In a previous article3 the author outlined the scope and objectives of the Joint Committee on Forestry and indicated some of the war and post-war problems to which it will give consideration. The present paper emphasizes the basic importance of forests and other natural resources in our post-war economy, predicts a continuing large industrial demand for forest products, and discusses some of the fields in which research is needed to make it possible to meet that demand. Stress is laid on the need for stabilization of the forest resource and of the industries dependent on it, and on the opportunity for leadership by foresters in attaining that goal.
