Observational study highlights damage to hickory reproduction by twig girdlers and pruners, suggesting ecosystem consequences.
Twig girdlers and twig pruners have frequently been reported as causing damage to a wide variety of host trees, however their effect on reproduction and stand composition has received little attention. The character and amount of damage to young hickory stands by the hickory twig girdler and the hickory spiral borer are here reported. The results of a study of egg and larval mortality of the hickory twig girdler are also presented. Parasites, predators, and associated insects are listed for both species
