Abstract This paper was presented at a meeting of the Washington Section, Society of American Foresters, held in the home of Gifford Pinchot on the evening of April 14, 1944. It develops the view now being expressed by many business leaders that public regulation of industry is both inevitable and desirable, and points out that "forestry is one field where regulation is dearly necessary to maintain prosperity."
