Abstract Do you know how to lay out and construct logging roads, "the simplest type of road that will serve the purpose" and one that "must be paid for by the tangible forest products currently removed?" The author describes the process for his company and points out that industrial foresters must be quick to recognize the economic advantage of trucks and tractors in reducing the cost of moving pulpwood from the woods to the mill. Still another development recognized and used by the author in determining prospective road location is aerial pictures which proved especially helpful in logging ice and glaze damaged timbered areas. Road construction methods and costs should set a challenging level for others engaged in similar work.
