Demonstration of passive mechanical joining and 3D-printed microlenses enables low-cost assembly of photonic systems.
We demonstrate pluggable single-mode fiber-chip interfaces that combine passive mechanical joining elements with 3D-printed facet-attached microlenses (FaML). Our approach opens a path to simple low-cost assembly of die-based photonic systems without the need for high-precision alignment equipment.
