Case study reveals sharing economy practices enhance operations performance in dairy settings, suggesting sustainability benefits.
Sharing economy (SE) practices have been consolidated as sustainable alternatives, but there are still gaps regarding their relationship with operations performance (OP). This article aims to investigate how SE practices can influence dairy setters’ OP at the social, strategic and operational levels. The methodological procedure applied was the study of multiple cases in fifteen settlements and a total of thirty-five interviews were carried out. The results showed that sharing practices help settlers improve dairy OP at social, strategic and operational levels. It was also found that sharing machines, tools, equipment, inputs, animals, knowledge and skills helps to improve the quality of milk, generates dependability, reduces costs, mitigates environmental impacts, and increases the quality of life of settlers.
