Application of juvenile hormone mimic solasodine enhances nucleic acid levels in Bombyx mori larvae, suggesting growth benefits.
In the present study, a juvenile hormone mimic, Solasodine is tested for growth promoting activity and improvement of silk in the Pure Mysore Race of Bombyx mori. Topical application of Solasodine to the early fifth instar larvae of Bombyx mori resulted in an increase in the shell weight. The increase in the shell weight was accompanied by an increase in the nucleic acid content in the fat body and posterior silk gland of Bombyx mori.
