Evolution of the Library Concept and Its Representation in the Context of Changing Technologies

The relevance of this research is related to the fact that today the importance of the library as a place for pre-serving memory is being leveled by society, and libraries are gradually turning into cultural and leisure centers, forming a social space of the “third place”. The aim of the study is to identify the causes of deconstruction of the library as a structure for storage of social memory. The article proposes to use the concept of “library construc-tion”, understood as a product of human activity for storage, accumulation, transmission and creation of knowledge. The article proposes the use of the concept of “library construct”, which refers to the product of hu-man activity in storing, accumulating, transmitting, and creating knowledge. The work presents the process of formation of “library construct” in the context of the history of librarianship. Particular attention is paid to how libraries are adapting to the new challenges of increasing information volumes and changing societal needs. Based on the conducted analysis, it is concluded that deconstruction of the library as a center for accumulation and transmission of social knowledge may call into question the very existence of this institution in the future. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the development of the “library construct” concept, which helps to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of change in this area.
