Comparative study shows AIZE-EX reduces test duration by 10-30% in glaucoma patients, indicating potential improvements in follow-up assessments.
Abstract Ambient Interactive ZEST EX (AIZE-EX) is a newly developed, time-saving visual field (VF) test algorithm for follow-up assessments in glaucoma patients that utilizes prior AIZE results. This study compared VF test results between AIZE and AIZE-EX in patients with glaucoma. Ninety-two eyes from 46 glaucoma patients were examined. All underwent the AIZE test at baseline and both AIZE and AIZE-EX tests at follow-up. Two test patterns were employed: 24 − 2 (44 eyes) and 24plus(1–2) (48 eyes). Mean deviation (MD), pattern standard deviation (PSD), mean sensitivity (MS), and test duration were compared between visits using the Mann–Whitney U test, and pointwise sensitivity differences were calculated. MD, PSD, and MS values obtained from AIZE-EX showed no significant differences compared with those from baseline and follow-up AIZE tests. Test duration for AIZE remained consistent between visits, whereas AIZE-EX reduced test time by approximately 10–30% (p < 0.001). AIZE-EX demonstrated comparable performance to AIZE in detecting glaucomatous VF abnormalities, while significantly reducing test duration. These findings suggest that AIZE-EX may serve as a preferred algorithm for follow-up VF examinations in glaucoma patients.
