Observational analysis highlights the need for better occupational medicine education in medical schools, suggesting improved integration into curricula.
Occupational Medicine (OM) education has historically been underrepresented in medical school curricula in Europe [6] and the United States [7]. Although workers continue to experience new hazards, many poorly characterized, OM, dedicated to worker health, is at a tipping point. The specialty faces an existential threat. Exposing medical school students to OM so they can incorporate this knowledge into their future practice or appreciate OM as a veritable specialty choice can help mitigate this threat.
