In February–March 2019, a trial excavation was conducted at the entrance to Bet She’an’s railway station (Permit No. A-8459; map ref. 246550–630/713375–400; Fig. 1 ) prior to the widening of Highway 71. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the Netivei Israel Company, was directed by B. Tzin (field photography and stone tools) and ‘A. Najar (area supervision) with the assistance of Y. Lavan and Y. Yaakobi (administration), M. Peleg (photogrammetry), D. Sandhaus (pottery), Y. Gorin-Rosen (glass), H. Tahan-Rosen (pottery and glass drawing), E. Dalali-Amos (plans), K. Covello-Paran (guidance), W. Atrash (scientific guidance), Y. Tzur (IAA sub-district archaeologist), B. Hana (IAA district archaeologist) and laborers from Jenin. Y. Har’el conducted preliminary inspections prior to the excavation.
