Review of genre/form terms in bibliographic records, highlighting the future of faceted cataloging.
In this paper, the authors provide a brief background on the Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials (LCGFT) from its inception to the present day. The professional literature reviewed gives additional insight on the history and development of LCGFT, including its application by catalogers. The authors also address the coexistence of form subdivisions and LCGFT in bibliographic records. The question of the form subdivision's use is tied to the future of faceted cataloging.
