Observational study develops a computer program for strabismus diagnosis in children, suggesting improved diagnostic accuracy.
Purpose. To develop a modern diagnostic method for periodic strabismus in children. Material and methods. From 2020 to 2024, we observed 86 children (137 eyes) with periodic strabismus and 25 healthy children (50 eyes). Results. We have developed a computer program for determining the angle of strabismus (programming language: python, weight: ~100 MB). The program itself calculates the frequency of deviations of the eyeball inward or outward every 5 minutes for 30 minutes. Then the total number of deviations is calculated, the type of deviation is determined: monolateral or alternating, the number of deviations of each eye is determined, the angle of deviation in degrees is revealed, and a preliminary diagnosis of the patient is formed in conclusion. Conclusions. Based on the integrated use of diagnostic methods, a computer program for diagnosing strabismus in children has been developed, with the help of which it is easy to make a preliminary diagnosis and convenient for conducting a mass examination of the population.
