Analysis of production challenges and marketing solutions in the Christmas tree industry, highlighting statewide grower organizations.
Formal organization in the Christmas tree industry is a recent development, and has closely paralleled the "plantation phase," as distinguished from the "wild tree" phase of the industry. As plantation trees came into the production stream, there has been an increase in the problems of production and later of marketing. Solutions required research and pooling of knowledge and experience. Statewide organizations of growers were a logical development. Twenty-five organizations, representing growers in 27 states, are now in existence, and 23 belong to a national association, which publishes a quarterly journal and conducts a biennial national convention.
