Observational analysis highlighted severe damage from flower thrips in slash pine, suggesting management needs.
A heavy infestation of a flower thrips, Gnophothrips fuscus (Morgan), occurred in a slash pine (Pinus elliottii var. elliottii Engelm.) seed orchard early in 1967. Flower damage and mortality during this infestation were observed, and data were recorded. Results revealed factors that obscure this insect's importance and illustrated its severe damage potential in slash pine seed orchards.
