Analysis shows how the conflict altered Poland's energy security landscape and policy direction.
The Russian military aggression against Ukraine has destabilized the political and economic situation not only in the region but also globally. Poland, being a neighbor of both conflicting countries, found itself in a particularly difficult position. Energy security is undoubtedly one of the areas that have been violated. This issue is the result of many factors, among which the dependence of the Polish economy on Russian energy resources, i.e. coal, crude oil, and natural gas, should be mentioned. Following the armed conflict in Ukraine, Poland was forced to dynamically reorient its energy policy, the main goal of which was to resign from Russian fossil fuels. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the impact Russian military aggression exerted on the key areas of Polish energy security. In this context, the following research questions have been posed: to what extent was the Polish energy sector dependent on Russian energy raw materials, and how has the war in Ukraine changed this situation? It was confirmed that the Russian aggression on Ukraine destabilized Poland’s energy security and accelerated the diversification of strategic fossil fuels.
