Proposed equations enhance site index estimation for red pine in plantations affected by European pine shoot moth.
Two sets of site-index equations for red pine (Pinus resinosa Ait.) plantations damaged by the European pine shoot moth (Rhyacionia buoliana Schiff.) are proposed: abbreviated-intercept equations and deformation intercept equations. Abbreviated intercepts consist of less than five consecutive internodes starting at breast height; deformation intercepts, less than five random internodes among the first five above breast height. Abbreviated-intercept equations also estimate site index at earlier tree ages than previously was possible.
