Observational analysis found high correlation (r=0.90) between wood specific gravity and graft survival in Douglas-fir clones, suggesting selection criteria.
The graft survival rate of 15 clones under practical orchard conditions in the Row River seed orchard was compared with their ortet's wood specific gravity. The simple linear regression analysis showed a close correlation (r=0.90) Further studies could well prove that wood specific gravity is a valuable indicator for good graftability while selecting parent trees for establishing a clonal seed orchard.
