The study of typologies within the context of urban morphology aims to analyze the classification of different types of buildings and their spatial organization, enabling an understanding of different forms of urban space occupation related to contemporary dynamics that shape the landscape. In this regard, this article aims to explore the urban morphology of the metropolis of Porto Alegre, seeking to discuss typologies of gated communities and analyze their socio-spatial distribution. The research was conducted based on the analysis of satellite images and the 2010 Demographic Census, where nine types were defined according to the built forms of each type. Subsequently, the spatial distribution was analyzed according to social variables. Two neighborhoods in the central-eastern zone (Boa Vista and Jardim Europa), where high-income gated communities predominate, and two in the southern zone (Tristeza and Camaquã), which have the highest number of gated communities, were analyzed in more depth. The analysis identified different types that cater to distinct social classes, reflecting segregation dynamics and distribution patterns that highlight historical and economic processes that have shaped the city's urbanization.
