During the Joseon dynasty, the wedding ceremony consisted of many rituals. Most of them are forgotten today, but some have survived in a modified form. The purpose of this article is to study the evolution of Korean wedding customs from the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) to the present. Internal and external factors influenced noticeable changes in the conduct of wedding ceremonies were studied. Thus, during the "economic miracle" period, the Korean government pursued a policy of combating irrational spending, many of the traditional ceremonies became the object of government regulation, aimed primarily at making them less wasteful. For this purpose, the laws that influenced the transformation and simplification of the traditional wedding are analyzed. External factors of influence can be traced in the processes of globalization and modern marriage ceremonies in Western countries. This study also examines the views of young people on weddings. Hypothesis: Koreans have preserved the traditional wedding, but have changed a number of its elements, partly under the influence of modern Western models. The author focuses on traditional and new forms of wedding ceremonies, which have demonstrated clear dynamics over the past 5-6 decades. Research Method: This work uses historical, anthropological analysis, general theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, abstraction), analysis of documents and sources. Result: The author conducted a comparative analysis of traditional and modern weddings in South Korea. The author believes that globalization is currently having a serious impact on the transformation of the wedding ceremony in South Korea. The role of wedding rituals in modern society is determined. Wedding ceremonies in Korea are regulated by the government.
