The mixed-metal complex with the composition of [GdCd2(L)3](PF6) (H2L = 2,6-pyridinedicarbonyl bis(N,N-diethylthiourea) has been synthesized by the ‘one-pot’ reaction of GdCl3∙6H2O, Cd(CH3OO)2∙2H2O and H2L with 1 : 2 : 3 molar ratio in methanolic solution. The structure of the obtained complex is characterized by IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results reveal a cationic trinuclear mixed-metal complex composed of one Gd(III) cation, two Cd(II) cations and three dianionic ligands {L2–}. The charge of the complex is compensated by a PF6– anion.
